What Terror is held with in the minds of plants?

To Venture south of the city and see what the ravages of magic have done to the land. I have never seen a plant that moves but There it was having taken the lives several men it later chose to captivate a pair of young humans into protecting it from would be harm doers. Just think the world has become so unstable that now the minds of men can even be subverted by a plant. It makes me boil my soups longer and take a wary eye at those who "prick" their hand gardening. Was it the killing of the larger ones that gave it the power to control the little ones? I mean no cause to alarm but why else would a boy protect the very plant that killed his elders than mind control? Brain-grabbing bromeliads what is this world coming to?
